UTI Symptom Check
By the eva team · · 2 min read
A urinary tract infection, commonly called a UTI, can cause burning while peeing, frequent or urgent trips to the bathroom and discomfort in the lower abdomen. Urine may also look cloudy, contain blood or smell stronger than usual. Other conditions can cause similar symptoms, so this EVA self-check can help you notice the pattern but cannot diagnose a UTI. A urine test may be needed to identify the cause.
1. Could These Be Signs Of A UTI?
Burning or stinging while peeing, needing to pee more frequently or suddenly feeling that you cannot wait can happen with a UTI. These symptoms are common health concerns, and you do not need to feel embarrassed about asking for help.
2. Notice Burning, Frequency And Urgency
Possible signs include pain or burning while peeing, going more frequently than usual, feeling a sudden strong urge or passing only a small amount while still feeling that you need to go.
3. Lower-Tummy Discomfort Can Happen Too
A UTI affecting the bladder may cause pressure, aching or discomfort in the lower abdomen. Notice whether the discomfort appears with burning, urgency or frequent peeing rather than judging one symptom by itself.
4. Your Urine May Look Or Smell Different
Urine may look cloudy, contain blood or smell stronger than usual during a bladder infection. However, colour or smell alone cannot confirm a UTI, because hydration and other health changes can also affect urine.
5. Similar Symptoms Can Have Other Causes
Burning does not always mean that you have a UTI. Irritated skin, fragranced products and some other urinary or intimate-health conditions can produce similar discomfort. The complete symptom pattern and appropriate testing help identify the cause.
6. A Urine Test Can Help Find The Cause
A healthcare professional may ask about your symptoms and test a urine sample. Urinalysis and urine culture can look for signs of infection and help guide treatment when bacteria are present. Symptoms alone cannot confirm a UTI.
7. Fever Or Back Pain Needs Faster Help
Seek urgent medical advice if urinary symptoms happen with fever or shivering, pain in your back or side, nausea, vomiting, blood in the urine or feeling very unwell. These symptoms can occur when an infection affects the kidneys.
8. Your Symptoms Need The Right Check
Tell a trusted adult when peeing burns or your bathroom pattern changes. Seek faster help when symptoms happen with fever, vomiting, back pain, blood in the urine or being unable to pee. A healthcare professional can identify whether a UTI or another condition is causing the symptoms.
