One Breast Bigger? That’s Common
By the eva team · · 1 min read
It is common for one breast to grow earlier or become slightly larger than the other during puberty. The difference may become less noticeable as development continues, although some natural asymmetry can remain in adulthood. Learn why this happens, how to feel more comfortable and which new breast changes should be checked.
1. One Breast Bigger Than The Other?
You may notice that one breast looks fuller, sits differently or begins developing before the other. This is called breast asymmetry, and it is very common while breasts are growing during puberty.
2. Breasts Do Not Always Start Together
During puberty, breast development commonly begins on one side before the other. One breast may temporarily grow faster while the second develops more slowly, creating a noticeable difference for a while.
3. The Difference May Become Smaller
As puberty continues, the slower-growing breast may catch up and the difference may become less noticeable. However, perfectly matching breasts are not expected, and some people naturally keep a small size or shape difference after development is complete.
4. Your Body Is Not Supposed To Be Perfectly Symmetrical
Natural bodies are not completely identical from one side to the other. Breast size, shape, nipple position and development can differ slightly. This does not make your body abnormal, less healthy or less mature.
5. Choose Comfort Not Pressure To Hide It
You do not need to correct or hide a small difference. A comfortable, well-fitting bra may help your clothes feel more secure. An optional removable insert on the smaller side can balance clothing if you want it, but it is entirely your choice.
6. A New Or Unusual Change Should Be Checked
Talk to a trusted adult or healthcare professional if you notice a new lump, nipple discharge, redness, warmth, skin dimpling, a sudden change in breast shape or pain that does not improve. A gradual difference during puberty is commonly normal, but new or concerning symptoms deserve proper assessment.
