Polycystic ovary syndrome, usually called PCOS, is a hormonal condition that can affect menstrual cycles, ovulation, skin, hair and the way the body responds to insulin. People with PCOS can experience very different symptoms, and having PCOS does not mean that every symptom will appear. Despite its name, a person does not need to have ovarian cysts to have PCOS.
