When Discharge May Mean Infection
Vaginal discharge is a normal fluid that helps keep the vagina healthy. It is often clear or white and may change in amount or texture throughout the menstrual cycle. However, a new strong smell, unusual colour, itching, soreness or pain may be a sign of irritation or infection. Symptoms can overlap, so only an appropriate healthcare assessment can identify the cause.
