Shaving, Waxing or Trimming?
By the eva team · · 1 min read
Body-hair removal is a personal choice, not a puberty rule. Some people leave their hair alone, while others prefer trimming, shaving or waxing. Each method works differently and has different pros, downsides and skin-care needs. Learn how these options compare and how to choose a method that feels comfortable and safe for your skin.
1. You Do Not Have To Remove Body Hair
Hair on the legs, underarms, arms or face can be a normal part of puberty. Choosing to remove it is completely optional. Some people prefer no grooming at all, while others like trimming, shaving or waxing for personal comfort or appearance.
2. Trimming Is Simple And Gentle
Trimming shortens hair without removing it from the root, so it is often one of the gentlest options. Small scissors or an electric trimmer can be used carefully on areas like the legs, arms or underarms. It usually causes less irritation than methods that remove hair completely.
3. Shaving Is Quick But Be Gentle
Shaving cuts hair close to the skin. It can be quick and easy, but it may also cause small cuts, razor burn or ingrown hairs if done roughly. Use a clean razor, water and a gentle shaving gel or foam, and avoid sharing razors with anyone else.
4. Waxing Lasts Longer—But It Can Hurt More
Waxing removes hair from the root, so the results may last longer than shaving. But it can feel more painful and may irritate sensitive skin. It is best avoided on skin that is already sore, sunburned, broken out or irritated.
5. Aftercare Helps Protect Your Skin
After trimming, shaving or waxing, be gentle with your skin. Rinse away leftover product, pat the skin dry and use a simple soothing moisturiser if your skin tolerates it. Loose clothing can help reduce rubbing, especially if your skin feels sensitive afterward.
6. Stop If Your Skin Reacts Badly
Talk to a trusted adult or healthcare professional if hair removal causes repeated burning, severe redness, swelling, pus-filled bumps, a rash or strong ongoing pain. If a method keeps irritating your skin, it may simply not be the best option for you.
